Alliance of nature reserves

The largest nature reserve of the Alps

Taken together with the bordering Rieserferner Ahrn Nature Park in South Tyrol, Hohe Tauern National Park in East Tyrol and Kärnten, Vals Valley Nature Reserve as well as the Innerpfitsch Landscape Protected Area, the Nature Park encompasses 2.793,2 km² and is the largest nature reserve of the Alps.

Within this area that spans national borders, natural and (agri)cultural landscapes are given priority over all forms of damaging types of development and the scarring of the sensitive high-mountain topography. However, the nature reserves do not merely exist on the map or on some piece of paper. Due to various joint, border-overarching initiatives of the nature reserves, a feeling of common responsibility for this unique natural and cultural heritage is being promoted. One such initiative was the Interreg Project "pfitscherjoch.grenzenlos".
